Louisiana Travel Association endorses District 37 candidate Marion Fox

Baton Rouge, La. (July 11, 2019) – The Louisiana Travel Association (LTA) Board of Directors unanimously voted to support the candidacy of long-time board member and past chairman Marion Fox, during its recent board meeting in Lafayette.

“Marion has been a champion of Louisiana’s travel and tourism economy her entire career, and we are certain she will continue to advocate for our industry during her tenure as the next District 37 State Representative,” said Janice Delerno-Verges, LTA board chairman. “Her experience and knowledge will allow her to be a strong voice at a state level and will be key to helping us grow Louisiana’s job-producing, revenue-generating travel industry.”

A lifelong resident of Lake Arthur, Republican Marion “Butch” Fox has served her community and parish for over 30 years. A Lake Arthur High School graduate and McNeese State University attendee, Butch as worked tirelessly to build a better Jefferson Davis Parish by serving as the Economic Development and Tourism Director since 2007.

For over a decade, Marion has worked to develop business investment and create new jobs. To date, over $250 million in new business investment and over 300 new jobs have come to Jeff Davis Parish under her leadership. Also, she’s increased visitor spending annually, upwards to $23 million in 2017 alone.

“Having lived nearly my entire life in Southwest Louisiana, I’m excited to be running for State Representative of District 37. Over the last 10 years, I’ve come to know most everyone in the district while serving in Economic Development and Tourism for Jeff Davis Parish. During this time, I have seen the massive change in our regions with billions spent by LNG facilities in Calcasieu and Cameron, a significant rise in international tourism, a push for technical school training at SOWELA and South Louisiana Community College, the rise and fall of the oil industry, and farmers looking for markets for their rice, crawfish, and soybeans. Working with regional partnerships, chambers, and alliances has granted me inside access to these developments and have put Southwest Louisiana on the map.

“Business development goes hand-in-hand with tourism. Both are essential to communities, helping enrich economies, culture, and quality of life for its residents. In Jeff Davis Parish, tourism is a vital component to our marketability and provides a steady source of revenue for our Parish. Cultural destinations, like the newly renovated Gator Chateau, and local events such as Lake Arthur’s Rock the Dock, Jennings’ Turn It Up Tuesday and the Jeff Davis Parish Fair all help to display our unique culture and natural resources to visitors, making Jeff Davis Parish a sought after tourist destination along the I-10 corridor. We must continue to educate, promote, and  strengthen this vital revenue-producing industry to our legislature, businesses, and visitors for the benefit of Jeff Davis Parish and Louisiana.”

In 2018, Louisiana Tourism saw over 51.3 million domestic and international visitors to the state of Louisiana.  Last year, visitors spent $18.8 billion in Louisiana which equates to $1.9 billion in state and local sales tax revenue. Tourism supports more than 237,200 jobs and is the 4th largest industry in the state of Louisiana.

Marion “Butch” Fox is running for District 37 State Representative, the seat formerly held by term-limited Representative John E. Guinn. The primary election is scheduled for October 12, 2019 with November 16, 2019 following as the general election.
